Arkansas doesn't immediately pop into mind when one thinks of "The Blues." More recognizable Blues geography includes Memphis, Chicago, the Mississippi delta region and Texas. Don't forget that Arkansas has its own delta region and the famous "King Biscuit Flour Hour" radio show originated in Helena, Arkansas. Arkansas does hold a well-deserved place in the hearts, minds and ears of the informed though. The Natural State has produced it's share of Blues greats and they will be showcased here.
Robert Lockwood Jr.
1/2/07
The latest issue of Blues Revue~We Remember features a nice article on Mr. Lockwood. A standout quote about his economic ups and downs in the music business:
Bad contracts and bum checks led him to try other jobs, including a stint in an arms factory and employment driving a delivery truck, but he always returned to his first love.
"I done quit the music business six times," he said. "I tried my best to live with the squares, but the[y] run me back to music."
